Skyfire 1.1 released

On August 24th Skyfire released the latest version of their mobile browser.

For those that don't know, skyfire is a mobile browser for WIndows Mobile and Symbian S60 that does server side rendering like Opera Mini, but also supports flash/ajax/quicksilver and the like.

    Changes for this release include:
  • Improved page load times
  • Improved scrolling and zooming on Symbian
  • Improved reconnect
  • WML support
  • Improved mobile website support
  • Page up/down navigation via short-key
  • Updated Plug-ins
  • More changes and details here: Skyfire 1.1 announcement

While Symbian S60 5th edition (touch screen) devices are not yet support, I decided to give it a try on a Nokia N97 to see what happens.
As you can see in the picture below.

The program does run, but it only takes up 2/3rd of the screen. Also there is no way to select items on the screen so many parts of the user interface are broken.
It is a good sign that the program installs and runs. So it may not be long till touchscreen Symbian users get a version of this browser as well.
